EC now 1-1 in NACC Tourney after loss to BenU

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – No. 6 Edgewood College used a big second inning to come away with a victory earlier this morning, but it was that same inning that hurt the Eagles in the nightcap against No. 2 Benedictine University at Alverno Field. The Eagles lost 11-0 in five innings after giving up two big innings and are now 1-1 in the NACC Tournament.

With the loss, the Eagles will now play in an elimination game Friday morning at 9:00 am against No. 4 Concordia Chicago.

Karlie Klossner started in the circle for the Eagles and escaped in the first before a rough second inning. Benedictine University scored five runs on five hits in the frame to take a commanding lead.

Edgewood College right fielder Katie Landon notched the Eagles' first hit of the game in the fourth on a single through the left side on the first pitch of her at-bat. It was one of two hits Edgewood College managed against Benedictine starter Holly Haberkorn, who improved to 14-6 on the year with the win.

Benedictine put together another big inning in the bottom of the fourth, scoring six runs on six hits. The Eagles committed two of their three errors in the inning and Shannon Whitmus allowed three runs—none earned—on three hits in relief. She relieved Klossner with one out in the bottom of the fourth.

The Eagles put together a threat in the top of the fifth, as Jackie Diesch led off the inning with a single down the left field line and Kayla Updike drew a five-pitch walk. Benedictine then turned a double play and induced a groundout to close things out.

No. 4 Concordia Chicago awaits the Eagles at 9:00 am tomorrow morning at Alverno Field. The Cougars lost earlier today to No. 5 Dominican by a score of 6-4.
