SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Edgewood College (15-23, 9-11 NACC) snapped Lakeland College's (19-19, 10-10 NACC) 12-game winning streak in game one with a 6-2 win but couldn't generate any offense in game two, falling to the Muskies 18-0 in five innings. The Eagles are one game out of the sixth and final playoff spot in the NACC with two regular season games remaining.
The Eagles and Muskies were scoreless going into the fourth inning thanks to solid pitching from Eagles starter Karlie Klossner. Dylan Bahrke got things going for the Eagles in the top of the fourth with a sac fly to right field that scored Jackie Diesch. The Eagles then managed to score two more in the frame thanks to two errors from the Muskies in the field.
The Eagles added another in the sixth on an error and two more in the seventh thanks to RBI singles from Alyssa Schulting and Bahrke.
Klossner picked up the win and now sits at 5-11 on the year after allowing just one run—earned—on four hits, while Shannon Whitmus picked up the save after throwing 2.1 innings in relief. She allowed three hits and struck out one. At the plate, shortstop Kylie Clark went 4-for-5 with a run scored and extended her hitting streak to 11 games. Diesch was the other Eagles player with multiple hits after going 2-for-2.
The Lakeland bats came alive immediately in game two, as they chased Eagles starter Rachel DeJongh out of the circle in the second inning. The Muskies scored four in the first, five in the second, three in the third and six in the fourth.
Second baseman Alexis Unser and Diesch were the lone Eagles players with hits in the contest, as Muskies starter Elizabeth Zimmerman was lights out over five innings and struck out four.
Whitmus, Klossner and Katelyn Welsh all appeared in relief for the Eagles, but the Muskies kept rolling and were able to end it early. Eight Muskies had at least two hits in the game.
The Muskies own the final playoff spot with a 10-10 record and hold a tiebreaker over the Eagles, who sit at 9-11 in the NACC. Should the Eagles tie with Alverno (currently 9-10 due to a suspended game this afternoon) for sixth place, the Eagles hold the tiebreaker after their sweep over the Inferno earlier this season.
Edgewood College will conclude the regular season on Sunday with a doubleheader against Wisconsin Lutheran at Ceniti Park starting at noon. Four seniors will be recognized for Senior Day.
