WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. – An 11-day layoff and the 12th ranked team in the country proved too much for the Edgewood College women's basketball team to overcome. The Eagles dropped a 61-42 decision to UW-Whitewater in their opening game of the Just A Game Tournament.
Edgewood College (2-8) fell behind 19-4 in after the first period, following a scoring drought over the last 5:38 of the period. The Eagles trailed 31-10 at the break, shooting just 16.7 percent against the Warhawks.
The Eagles offense played better in the second half, committing just seven turnovers and shooting 40 percent from the field. Rachel Pope scored 12 of her game-high 17 points in the second half. Sierra Jiran scored nine points. Newcomer Cole Jordee and Allison Gordon each had five rebounds for the Eagles. Edgewood College held a 17-8 advantage at the free throw line over the Warhawks.
Edgewood College falls to 2-8 on the season heading into tomorrow's game with UW-Stevens Point at the Just A Game Fieldhouse. The Eagles are in the midst of three games in a four day span, ending with a home contest against Alverno College on Saturday.
