WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. – Facing the 2015 NCAA Division III Tournament runner-up and this season's top-ranked Augustana College (Ill.) Vikings, the Edgewood College men's basketball team fell in its final non-conference game of the season at the Just A Game Fieldhouse Wednesday night. Edgewood College fell 79-44 to fall to 1-10 on the year while No. 1 Augustana improved to 11-0.
Edgewood College forward Trevon Ampe got the Eagles on the board with a free throw following an offensive rebound on the team's first possession. The Vikings responded on the next possession with a bucket from Tayvian Johnson and never trailed from there on out.
The Eagles kept things within five as late at the 10:12 mark in the first half following Ampe's hot streak from his post position. The Madison, Wis., native scored three layups in just over two and a half minutes, the latest which brought the Eagles to within 21-16. The Vikings then went on a 27-7 run to close the half.
The Eagles then showed their depth in the second half, as the Vikings outscored Edgewood College by just 10. Tyler Westrick and McClain Steffens scored four points each in the half as eight different players tallied points after the break.
Ampe recorded his third game in double figures on the season with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Tyler Lemke was the next-highest scorer for the Eagles after finishing with six points. He also led the team in boards with five. Adam Freitag and Jake Reetz hit three-pointers in the loss.
