MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's basketball team's strong first half gave way to Wisconsin Lutheran College in the second half in a 74-49 defeat at the Recreation Complex. The Eagles trailed by five points at the break, but went cold from the field in suffering their sixth straight defeat.
After Wisconsin Lutheran College (4-7, 3-4 NACC) opened up an early 8-3 lead, the Eagles exploded for a 14-1 run to grab their largest lead of the game at 17-9. Emilo Lopez scored the first four points of the run, while Arik Anderson nailed a three-pointer and Tyler Westrick converted a three-point play. The Eagles got a three-pointer from Spencer Barnes and a free throw by Tyler Lemke to maintain a 23-18 lead with 7:46 left until halftime. However, four straight points from WLC's Collin Kennedy sparked a 17-7 run to give the Warriors a 35-30 halftime lead. Edgewood College (1-11, 1-6 NACC) shot 37.0 percent in the first half and hit four three-pointers.
Jim Bridges and Lopez scored back-to-back hoops early in the second half to bring Edgewood College back within three points at 37-34, but that would be as close as the young Eagles would get. Wisconsin Lutheran would use a 12-1 run to go ahead by double digits for the remainder of the night.
Westrick led all Eagles with 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting. Lopez contributed eight points and a team-high three assists. Adam Freitag tallied seven points, while Lemke pulled down five rebounds. Edgewood College shot just 29.8 percent for the game.
Wisconsin Lutheran was led by Jim Marose's double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Kennedy and Jake Jarnigo contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively. The Warriors dominated the glass be a 50-29 margin over the Eagles.
Edgewood College will look to break their current losing streak on Saturday when they travel to face Rockford University at Seaver Gymnasium. That game will feature a 2:00 p.m. tip off.
