UWP steals victory in regular season finale

MADISON, Wis. – For their last night at Breese Stevens Field this season, the Edgewood College women's soccer team certainly wanted to leave the old stadium with a win. However, UW-Platteville scored two second half goals to come from behind to defeat the Eagles 2-1 in Edgewood College's regular season finale.

Emily Skaer continued her torrid scoring pace by getting Edgewood College (8-9) on the board in the ninth minute. After Skaer played Jennifer Dailey open on the left wing with a through ball, Dailey found Skaer cutting to the middle of the field. She turned and fired a shot that beat UW-Platteville (3-11) goalkeeper Kate Rash low to her right. It was Skaer's seventh goal in her last four games.

The Eagles lead only lasted three minutes past halftime. UW-Platteville came out of the break with new energy and tied the game in the 49th minute. Emily Phillips diagonal ball found the foot of Anna Sobal before Eagle goalkeeper Sabelle Seabrook could reach it to tie the match at 1-1. In the 70th minute, the Pioneers made it 2-1. The Eagles defense failed to clear a free kick from Morgan Phillips, and Emily Phillips snuck in behind to score the loose ball for UWP's first lead of the game. Edgewood College pushed players forward in the final 10 minutes but couldn't come up with the equalizer.

Skaer and Taylor Pampuch each had three shots for the game, while Dailey and Stevie Grable totaled two shots apiece. Seabrook made seven saves in minding the Eagles net.

With the regular season behind them, Edgewood College will re-set their sights on the NACC Tournament which begins on Sunday. The sixth-seed Eagles will play at third-seed MSOE at 1:00 p.m. at Viets Field in Milwaukee.
