MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer opted for a defensive strategy to try and limit the powerful Concordia University Wisconsin offense. Ultimately the Eagles did limit the Falcons to just one goal, but one goal was all CUW needed to claim a 1-0 victory on Parents' Day at Breese Stevens Field. The loss snapped the Eagles' season long four game winning streak..
Edgewood College's best opportunity to score came early on in the 10th minute. Haley Gaines took a free kick from just inside the midfield line which hit the ground cleanly and bounced high in the penalty area. Emily Skaer crashed hard toward the far post, but Falcons goalkeeper Ariana Worthing leaped and snared the loose ball before Skaer could make a play on it.
Concordia University Wisconsin (9-1-2, 5-0 NACC) broke the scoring drought in the 71st minute. Kayla Schlosser carried the ball on the dribble down the right sideline, where she found Carley Pfannerstill just inside the penalty area. Pfannerstill fired a one-time shot and got just enough of it to slide the ball inside the left post, beating Eagle goalkeeper Sabelle Seabrook. Seabrook made seven saves on 22 total shots from the Falcons.
Edgewood College's task won't get easier next week, as the Eagles travel to Milwaukee to face MSOE on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. The Eagles and Raiders are currently part of a five-way tie for third place with nine points in the standings.
