WHITEWATER, Wis. – Goals have been hard to come by in the first two games of the season for the Edgewood College women's soccer team. On Friday evening, the Eagles were blanked by UW-Whitewater 3-0, suffering their first loss of the season. Goalkeeper Tori Fortney made three saves in the match.
Marie Lesperance of UW-Whitewater (2-1) contributed to all three goals for the Warhawks. She scored twice in the first 20 minutes of the match to give UW-Whitewater a 2-0 halftime lead. In the 59th minute, Lesperance assisted Carly Pottle on the third and final goal of the match.
Edgewood College (0-1-1) got one shot off in the first half, courtesy of Hailey Gaines. The Eagles began to put some pressure on the Warhawks defense early in the second half, unleashing three shots in the first 10 minutes, including two from Liz Darkow. Unfortunately, none of the three found the net. Taylor Pampuch put a head on a cross in the 84th minute, but her shot sailed wide right of the goal.
Fortney started the match in goal for the Eagles and played into the 81st minute before being relieved by Maddie Schroeder.
Edgewood College will look for home field advantage to change their fortunes on Sunday. The Eagles will host St. Norbert College at 1:00 p.m. at Warner Park in Madison. The Eagles are playing their 2014 home schedule at both Warner Park and Reddan Soccer Park in Verona while Breese Stevens Field is being renovated.
