Eagles hang tough against UWW, fall 1-0

WHITEWATER, Wis. - Edgewood College goaltender Matt Dammen did the best he could in his attempt to make Edgewood College history Friday night against UW-Whitewater. Going for the program's first ever win against the Warhawks, the Eagles held strong in a tight, chippy contest but ultimately fell 1-0 after Michael Montanye buried a goal just 1 minute, 30 seconds into the first overtime period.

Dammen, a 6-foot-5 senior from Sun Prairie, Wis., was busy throughout the contest. The Warhawks registered 22 shots, nine of which were on goal. Edgewood College had just one shot on goal in the first half, but turned in seven in the second half alone. The Eagles finished with three shots on goal.

Sam Novak and Tom Coull earned the assist on Montanye's goal, which was his first of the season. Thini Messan, Stephen Gilbert and Luke Miller were the Eagles to put a shot on goal in the contest, while Kelmend Isaj and Dane Donnelly registered two shots apiece. Sam Novak led the Warhawks offensively and had four shots, two of which were on target. The Warhawks are now 12-0 all-time against the Eagles.

Edgewood College will return home for their next bit of action on Sunday, Sep. 7. They host St. Norbert College at Warner Park in Madison, Wis., and the game time is set for a 3:30 pm start.
