Late Benedictine push too much for Eagles

MADISON, Wis. - A Benedictine goal in the 36th minute and a late offensive push was too much for the Edgewood College Eagles to overcome Friday evening at Warner Park. Edgewood College would drop its first conference game of the season on the night by falling in a 3-0 decision to a Benedictine team that is now 4-5-1 overall on the year and 3-0 in the NACC.

Francisco Delgado scored his first goal of the year for Benedictine on a header from a long cross from Eric Lukitsch. Edgewood College would then play Benedictine fairly evenly for the rest of the half and deep into the second, but a pair of goals in the closing minutes from Benedictine erased the comeback attempts from Edgewood College.

Santiago Beltran buried the second Benedictine goal in the 84th minute on an unassisted play. It was his first of the year. Bobby Kostadinov followed that up with another in the 88th minute on a pass from Edgar Reyes that brought him to the far right side of the box. He pushed the goal past Edgewood College goalkeeper Matt Dammen from a tough angle and put the game away for Benedictine.

Benedictine put up 21 shots on the night but only eight of them were on target. Edgewood College registered 11 and four were stopped by Benedictine goalie Steve Mack. Zander Rothering led the Eagles with three shots, while Stephen Gilbert and Kelmend Isaj totaled two apiece.

Edgewood College will look to get back on track Wednesday night at Reddan Soccer Park against Lakeland. The game is set to begin at 7 pm.
