MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College men's soccer team put up a 2-0 victory over Lakeland College Wednesday night at Reddan Soccer Park to improve to 5-4-1 overall and 3-1 in the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference.
Stephen Gilbert scored his first goal of the season and
Henry Simon netted his team-leading fourth of the year to come away with the win over the Muskies.
Despite not scoring a goal, the Muskies peppered Eagles' goaltender
Matt Dammen with plenty of shots. They attempted 14 shots but only three were on target. The shutout is Dammen's second of the season and fifth of his career. The Eagles made it into double-digits in the shots category as well and finished with 10.Â
Senior
Kelmend Isaj fed Simon a perfect lead pass in the 38th minute and Simon was able to put it past Muskies' goaltender Austin Ganzke. Simon, who is one of three Eagles to have multiple goals on the year, slid it past Ganzke and had it roll right inside the left post. Edgewood College would take the 1-0 lead into halftime but Lakeland had a 6-4 shot advantage up to that point.
Stephen Gilbert, a senior from Fitchburg, Wis., was tied for second in goals last year for the Eagles with five and put in his first of the year just over 10 minutes into the second half. Evan Rogaczcewski launched a perfect corner that met Gilbert on the far side of the goal and Gilbert placed it into the upper left corner to make it 2-0. It was Rogaczewski's second assist of the season.
Dammen improved to 5-4-1 with the effort while Ganzke suffered the loss and dropped to 3-5-1 on the year. The Eagles will travel to Aurora University Saturday for their next bit of action. The game will be played at Vago Field and is set to begin at 3:30 pm.
