RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Edgewood College women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals to escape with a 3-2 win over Concordia University Chicago Saturday afternoon in the conference opener. Jennifer Dailey and Hannah Menzia scored early in the second and Emily Dorsett buried the game-winner in the 84th minute to help the Eagles improve to 5-2-1 overall on the year.
The Cougars had all the momentum after a Natalie Weinhold goal in the 50th minute to put the home team up 2-0, but Dailey, a senior forward, had the answer and scored just over a minute after Weinhold's tally. Megan Schroeder assisted on the play and it was Dailey's fourth goal of the season.
From then on it was all Eagles. Menzia also punched in her fourth goal of the season to tie things up at two in the 66th minute. Dailey was there for the assist on the play. With time winding down, senior midfielder Emily Dorsett took matters into her own hands and scooted one past Cougars' goalkeeper Callie Hasselbring. It was Dorsett's first goal of the season and Dailey assisted on the play, giving her four points on the day.
The Eagles outshot the Cougars 14-12 and also had three more shots on goal in the contest. Tori Fortney recorded the win for the Eagles and finished with four saves, while Hasselbring was tagged with the loss after stopping six shots.
The Eagles will get back into action Wednesday, Sept. 14 at Marian. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm from Smith Field in Fond du Lac, Wis.
