MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team wasn't exactly in a scoring slump, but on Thursday night, the Eagles busted out in a big way with a season-high five goals in a 5-0 victory over Maranatha Baptist University. Hannah Menzia scored twice while Taylor Pampuch notched a goal and two assists to Menzia all in the first half. Twin sisters Taylor and Jessie Pampuch each scored their first career collegiate goals in the game.
Edgewood College (4-2-1) opened the scoring with a pretty passing combination on the right side of the field. Erin Peterson and Jenna Mineau worked a give and go pass, which allowed Mineau to slot the ball directly to the middle where Taylor Pampuch finished it from five yards out for a 1-0 Eagles lead just nine minutes into the match. It was Taylor Pampuch's first career goal as an Eagle since joining the team as a transfer this season.
Pampuch and Menzia then connected twice in a three-minute span. First Pampcuh worked the left side beating a defender and feeding Menzia in the middle for a goal. In the 40th minute, Stevie Grable directed a header toward Pampuch, which she one-touched to Menzia. The freshman spotted her target and buried a low shot in the bottom left corner of the net, and the Eagles had a 3-0 halftime lead.
Not to be outdone by her twin sister Jessie Pampuch got herself on the scoreboard. Carley Hanko set up the action with a brilliant run down the right flank, beating two Maranatha Baptist (1-5-1) defenders and penetrating the penalty area. Hanko's cross skipped through the middle where Jessie Pampuch was waiting to bang it into the back of the net for a 4-0 lead. Like Taylor, it was also Jessie's first career goal as an Eagle.
The fifth goal of the night was also an Eagle's first career goal. After Hanko's corner kick drew Sabercats' goalkeeper Michala Marino off her line, Hannah O'Dea picked up the loose ball ricocheting around the box and put it home in the 85th minute.
Sabelle Seabrook made her first career start in goal for the Eagles and emerged with her first career victory. Seabrook made one save in the first half, before yielding to Megan Bower who played in goal for the second half.
Edgewood College opens NACC play on Saturday with a match at Concordia University Chicago. The Cougars currently have the best overall record in the conference at 4-1.
