MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team posted perhaps its strongest victory of the season Tuesday night at Warner Park in Madison, Wis., upending Beloit College by a score of 3-0. The Eagles improved to 3-2-1 on the year behind Jennifer Dailey's two goals and an aggressive offensive attack.
The Eagles dominated the time of possession in the contest. The Buccaneers managed only three shots on the night, one of which was on target. The Eagles fired 18 shots and 10 were on goal, keeping Beloit's goaltender Alex Spirov busy throughout.
Dailey got the Eagles on board with an unassisted tally from the left side of the box after battling 1-on-1 with a defender. Dailey, a senior from Waunakee, Wis., lofted the ball over Spirov's head on a chip shot for her second goal of the season.
The Eagles opened the second half even more productive on offense. They had six shots in the first half but registered 12 in the second and kept the ball in Beloit's zone for extended periods of time. Dailey buried her second goal of the game in the 67th minute with help from Stevie Grable. Liz Darkow, a sophomore transfer from Concordia University St. Paul, added to the offensive barrage and netted a goal of her own just over three minutes after Dailey's. It was Darkow's second of the season.
Senior Tori Fortney and freshman Maddie Schroeder split time in the net. Fortney played the first half and didn't face one shot, while Schroeder played the entire second and faced one. Fortney received the win and improved to 2-2-1 on the year, while Spirov dropped to 3-3-1.
The Eagles will square off against Maranatha Baptist University on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 pm for their final tune-up before the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference schedule begins on Saturday. Thursday's game will take place at Warner Park.
