MADISON, Wis. – It was a tale of two halves late Sunday afternoon between the Edgewood College Eagles and the Lake Forest Foresters at Reddan Soccer Park, but Lake Forest's goal in the ninth minute was enough to overcome a strong push from the Eagles in the second half.
The Foresters dominated time of possession in the first half and finished with 12 shots compared to the Eagles' two. Edgewood College turned around in the second half to play much more aggressive on offense but were still outshot 11-8. The effort wasn't enough to hand the Foresters their first loss of the season, as they now sit at 6-0 overall on the year. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 2-2-1.
The Eagles put the pressure on in the final moments of the game but failed to find the net. Carley Hanko narrowly missed wide right with just over five minutes remaining and Liz Darkow hit post on the far left side of the box with 4 minutes, 21 seconds left on the clock. That would mark the final scoring chance for the Eagles on the night, as the Forester defense held strong the rest of the way.
Kayla Wuest lit up the scoreboard for the Foresters in the ninth minute, marking her second goal of the season. Michele Giurovici was there for the assist on the play. It was Eagles goaltender Tori Fortney's lone mishap on the night, as the senior from Geneva, Ill., played lights out the rest of the match. She made several diving saves to keep the Eagles within striking distance and ended the night with seven stops.
Foresters goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta wound up with four saves, two of which came off the foot of Darkow. Jennifer Dailey and Haley Gaines were the other Eagles to put a shot on net in the contest.
The Eagles will play the fourth game of a five-game home stand Tuesday at Warner Park against Beloit College. Game time is set for 7 pm.
