Eagles fall to Lady Reds, Green Knights

KENOSHA, Wis. – With the NACC Tournament just around the corner, the Edgewood College women's tennis team had two more nonconference matches to get some work in. Morgan Wilson earned three wins on the day, but the Eagles fell 7-2 to both Carthage College and St. Norbert College.

Wilson and No. 1 doubles partner Anna Miles got Edgewood College (17-8) off on the right foot as they won a close 9-8 (8-3) battle with the Lady Reds' (12-6) Haleigh McPeek and Bari Reynolds. In singles play, it was Brooke McBain who took care of business at No. 5 singles. McBain won the first set 6-4 and lost the second 6-1, but pulled out a 10-8 victory for the Eagles' second point. Ellie Wilkie was in a tight duel in the No. 3 spot, but after winning the first 7-5, fell 6-1, 10-7.

Against St. Norbert College, Wilson and Miles carded their second win of the day, an 8-3 triumph in the top doubles spot. Edgewood College had a tough time in singles play, but Wilson bested the Green Knights' (24-4) Nancy Chybowski 6-3, 6-3 to finish the day 3-1.

The NACC Tournament begins on Tuesday, but with the No. 1 overall seed, the Eagles earned a bye until Saturday, May 3. Edgewood College will face the lowest remaining seed beginning at 12:15 p.m. at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
