Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Big second half lifts Regents over Eagles

MADISON, Wis. – Rockford University's John O'Bryan and Ross Arteaga proved to be too much for the Edgewood College defense Saturday night at the Edgedome, as the two combined to score 48 points for the Regents to push them to a 79-63 victory. With the loss the Eagles now sit at 4-6 overall and 4-3 in the NACC while the Regents improve to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in the NACC.

The Regents came out firing on all cylinders and led 11-2 just over three minutes into the contest. The Eagles responded quickly and tied it at 19 with 11:37 left in the half with the help of two big triples from Dylan Rusch and Spencer Barnes.

The Eagles would lead by as many as four in the first half and led 33-31 with 3:25 left in the half. Arteaga would then score a pair of buckets over the remainder of the half and gave the Regents a 37-36 lead heading into the break. The Regents shot 51.7 percent (15-of-29) and were 5-of-11 from deep in the half and the Eagles turned the ball over nine times.

The Eagles and Regents traded baskets for most of the first 10 minutes of the second half until Arteaga hit a deep three-pointer with 10:57 remaining to give the Regents a 55-46 lead. A three-pointer from Adam Freitag and a jumper by Trevor Neale brought the Eagles back to within four, but that would be the closest the Eagles would get the rest of the way. The Regents went on a 10-0 run in a three-minute span to take charge. John O'Bryan knocked down to three-pointers in the run and the Regents led 69-53 with 5:05 remaining.

O'Bryan would remain hot through the final buzzer and he finished with 27 points on 9-of-23 shooting. He had 16 in the second half while Arteaga finished with 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Trevor Neale was the lone Eagle to reach double figures with 16 points, which is just two off his career high. Adam Freitag had the second-most points for the Eagles (8) on a very balanced scoring effort. Eight Eagles had at least five points on the night. Jake Heuer again led the charge in the rebounding department with eight boards, which was just one off his career high.

The Eagles will be off until Sunday, Dec. 28, when they travel to Puerto Rico for the San Juan Shootout. They will play Ramapo College at 12 pm Sunday and will wrap up competition in Puerto Rico one day later at 12 pm against Wesley College.
