ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Edgewood College volleyball team entered Saturday's action at the Augustana College Invitational, attempting to reach 20 wins for the fourth consecutive year and extending an eight-match winning streak. The Eagles got their 20th win of the year and ninth in a row by defeating Simpson College 3-1 in the first match, before falling to Buena Vista University 3-1 to close out the regular season.
Edgewood College (20-12) won the first match over Simpson College 25-14, 19-25, 25-9, 25-13 behind 14 kills and 16 digs from Jordan Winkler. Sarah Schuchhardt had one solo block and six assisted blocks, while Renee Meister also accounted for seven total blocks, all assisted. Rachel Tesch led the team with 25 digs, while Rachel Thomsen dished out 30 assists.
Complete stats from the Eagles' 25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21 loss to Buena Vista University are not yet available, but Winkler led the way again with 14 kills and 16 digs. Savannah Koester also reached double figures with 11 kills, while Elizabeth Evans and Meister scored eight kills apiece. Tesch controlled the back row with 24 digs, while Thomasen handed out 26 assists. Freshman Haley Schwenn had 20 assists of her own.
Edgewood College will open postseason play at home on Tuesday night. The third-seeded Eagles will host sixth-seed Marian University in a NACC Volleyball Tournament First Round match at 7:00 p.m. Fans can watch the live stream on EagleTV via EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
