RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College volleyball team's four-match winning streak came to a sudden halt at the hands of Dominican University. In a rematch of last year's NACC Tournament championship match, the Stars blanked the Eagles 25-19, 25-16, 25-16. The loss dropped the Eagles back to .500 overall and in the NACC.
Edgewood College (11-11, 2-2 NACC) held a two-point lead at 15-13 in the first set after Jordan Winkler put down a kill. However, the Stars responded with a 10-2 run behind five kills from Caitlen Foote and went on to claim the set. The Eagles never gained a foothold in the second set as Dominican University (13-8, 3-0 NACC) scored seven straight points and then five straight points for a 15-4 lead. Sarah Schuchhardt and Savannah Koester scored back-to-back kills to bring the Eagles within 19-12, but the Eagles got no closer.
In the third set, the Eagles grabbed an 11-9 lead behind three kills from Elizabeth Evans. Once again, however, the Stars halted the Eagles momentum. This time it was a 13-3 run, with three kills and two aces from the Stars' Carri Chambers, and Dominican University closed out the sweep.
Winkler finished with 11 kills and 10 digs for her fifth consecutive double-double. Koester had seven kills while Evans tallied five kills. Rachel Thomsen dished out 21 assists and Rachel Tesch matched Winkler's total with 10 digs.
