Eagles split on final day of UWP Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Edgewood College wrapped up play in the two-day UW-Platteville Invitational in with a 3-1 win in the early match against Carroll, but a 3-2 loss to Millikin University in the final match of the day. The loss to the Big Blue snapped the Eagles winning streak at six straight matches heading into their home opener on Tuesday night.

Against Carroll University, Edgewood College (8-2) dropped the opening set for just the second time this season, but bounced back for a 23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-12 victory. Four different Eagles had at least 10 kills apiece, led by Jessica Martin and Elizabeth Evans with 14 each. Jordan Winkler scored 11 kills against just one error for a .385 attack percentage, while Katie Wedvick at 10 kills. Evans led all Eagles with a .440 attack percentage. Samantha Himmelspach had 25 of the Eagles' 108 digs, while Lindsey Swansby had 40 assists.

In the second match, the Eagles had a match point to extend their winning streak to seven matches at 14-13 in the fifth set, but Millikin University (5-3) scored the final three points of the match to end the streak 25-21, 23-25, 25-15, 15=25, 16-14. Martin again had 14 kills to lead the Eagles, while Winkler hammered home 10 kills. Himmelspach had 24 digs with Swansby adding 20 digs to go with 30 assists. Wedvick, Swansby and Sarah Schuchhardt each had four blocks in the match.

Edgewood College will open both their home schedule and their NACC schedule on Tuesday evening in a triangular at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. The Eagles will host Concordia University Wisconsin at 4:00 p.m. and then Maranatha Baptist at 8:00 p.m. Live video will be available on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
