Eagles fall to Duhawks, take down Spartans

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. – After dropping a pair on Friday, the Edgewood College volleyball team was determined to come away with wins today. The Eagles pushed Loras College to five sets before falling 3-2, but closed out the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference-Iowa Collegiate Athletic Conference Challenge on a high note with a 3-1 victory over the University of Dubuque.

In the morning match, Edgewood College and Loras College (7-9) battled all the way to a fifth set. The Duhawks earned a 26-24 first set win, but the Eagles responded with a convincing 25-17 victory in the second behind 13 kills and a .250 attack percentage. After Loras snagged a third frame win, the Eagles again fought back to tie the match. In the final set, neither team commited an attack error, but the Duhawks edged Edgewood College 15-11 after hitting .385 with 10 kills.

In match number two on the day, the Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind an impressive attacking display. Edgewood College piled up 27 kills with just five errors in the two sets and hit over .300. The University of Dubuque (6-10) climbed back with a 25-22 victory in set three, but the Eagles took the match with a 25-15 convincing set four victory.

Jessica Martin piled up a team-high 27 kills on the day while Lindsey Swansby dished out 74 assists. Sarah Schuchhardt had an impressive match against Loras with eight kills and just one error in addition to two blocks. Schuchhardt added five more kills and four blocks against Dubuque. Rachel Tesch led the back row with 49 kills on the day.

Edgewood College will be back in action this Tuesday against Carroll University. The 7:00 p.m. match from the Van Male Field House in Waukesha.
