Box Score MADISON, Wis. – Returning to their third straight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament match, the Edgewood College volleyball was hoping the result would be more like 2011 and less like a season ago. The Eagles battled hard, but Dominican University earned their revenge from this year's October matchup and handed Edgewood College a 3-0 loss in the Todd Wehr Edgedome on Saturday.
The struggles began early on for Edgewood College as the Eagles could not seem to land their attacks and hit just -.062 in the first frame. Dominican, on the other hand, tallied 16 kills and 16 digs on their way to a 25-17 set one victory. Edgewood College (26-8) fared somewhat better in the second set with just four errors, but again was held to just nine kills. The two teams put together plenty of long rallies, totaling 65 digs in the second frame alone.
Down 2-0 in the match, Edgewood College started the third set in a 4-1 hole, but rallied back to a one-point deficit thanks to a pair of kills from Katie Wedvick. The Eagles hung with the Stars for a while, but Dominican opened up a five-point lead at 16-11 and Edgewood College never could quite climb back. The Eagles hit .234 with 15 kills in the third frame, but were trumped by Domincan's 17 kills, zero errors, and .405 attack percentage.
Senior Jessica Martin led the Eagles with 11 kills while Elizabeth Evans added seven. Lindsey Swansby handed out 21 assists and scored on ace, tying Karen Rieder (1995-98) for the Edgewood College record for most aces in a career at 152. Rachel Tesch piled up 19 digs to lead the back row.
Despite the loss, this year's squad still holds the best winning percentage in Edgewood College history at .765. With an overall record of 26-8, the Eagles still have an outside chance at an at-large bid for the NCAA Division III Tournament. The tournament selection show will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 11.
