#21 UW-Stevens Point edges Eagles in five

Box Score MADISON, Wis. – Before diving into the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference tournament, the Edgewood College volleyball team welcomed 21st-ranked UW-Stevens Point to town and gave the packed house a thriller. The Eagles forced the Pointers to five sets, but ultimately fell 3-2 to UW-Stevens Point who averaged 15 kills per set.

Edgewood College (24-7) took a tough 25-12 loss in the first set after Stevens Point came out strong, hitting .395 with an impressive 19 kills. Despite the setback, the Eagles roared back in the second frame, and evened up the match while holding the Pointers to an attack percentage of just .065. Again Stevens Point grabbed the match lead with a nearly flawless attack in the fourth including 16 kills and just one error in 28 attacks (.536) but Edgewood College would not back down.

The dramatic fourth set entailed 11 tie scores and three lead changes, keeping the crowd on the edge of their seat every point. Edgewood College held their first set point at 25-24, but Stevens Point's Emma Brunkhorst scored a kill to extend the frame. The two teams went back and forth with seven straight side outs before the Eagles earned a 29-28 advantage after kill by Jessica Martin. Facing their fifth set point of the frame, Lindsey Swansby was up to serve. After three exchanges across the net, Swansby set up Martin who slammed home a kill to give the Eagles an electrifying 30-28 victory and extended the match.

Tied 2-2 in the fifth, UW-Stevens Point went on a seven-point run for a 9-2 lead and from there Edgewood College (24-7) could not climb back into contention. The Eagles got as close as four points, but ultimately fell 15-7 in the deciding frame.

Jordan Winkler and Martin each had double-digit kills with 14 and 13, respectively while Swansby dished out 31 assists. Five different players had at least 10 digs with Rachel Tesch's 22 leading the way.

Brunkhorst earned 26 kills for the Pointers while Alexis Hartman racked up 59 assists and four service aces. Stevens Point tallied 14 total blocks against Edgewood College.

The Eagles concluded their regular season action on Tuesday night and will have a week off before taking on No. 8 Marian University in the first round of the NACC Tournament. The 7:00 p.m. home match will feature live video and live stats on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
