Eagles roll through Regents with 13 aces

Box Score MADISON, Wis. – After a week hiatus, the Edgewood College volleyball team returned to action on Friday night and did not miss a beat. The Eagles downed Rockford University 3-0 at the Todd Wehr Edgedome behind a season-high 13 service aces.

The Eagles (18-6, 5-0 NACC) jumped out early in the first set and never looked back. Two kills by Elizabeth Evans highlighted an 8-3 rally to open the match. A pair of Edgewood College attack errors allowed Rockford to close the gap to 13-12, but three aces helped propel the Eagles to a 8-1 run and 21-13 lead. A few points later, Katie Wedvick sent Edgewood College to an opening set victory 25-17.

After the Eagles earned a 25-16 victory in the second frame, the Regents (2-16, 0-5 NACC) stepped up early in the third, proving they would not go down without a fight. Rockford took a three-point lead at 6-3, but three kills by Jenna Dammen and Evans tied the match at six apiece. Later, down 9-8, Edgewood College decided enough was enough. The Eagles used six aces, four from Macalah Finstad, to fuel a 17-2 run and put the Regents away 25-11.

Edgewood College posted 75 digs, the most this season in a three-game match and hit .239 as a team. Finstad served up a career-high four aces while Lindsey Swansby and Rachel Tesch added three each. Jordan Winkler held kill honors with nine while hitting .471. In just her 10th set of the season, Dammen totaled five kills and zero errors on 10 attacks.
