WAUKESHA, Wis. – Before heading into the bulk of their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference schedule, the Edgewood College volleyball team stopped in Waukesha to make a statement. The Eagles used multiple long scoring runs and 10 service aces to top Carroll University 3-0 and earn their first sweep since September 10.

Set one began as a chess match back-and-forth, but with the score tied at 9-9, Edgewood College (15-6) began to put together a few scoring runs. Sarah Schuchhardt helped the Eagles to a 6-1 run after serving four consecutive points and a bit later, Jordan Winkler saw eight consecutive serves to push Edgewood College's lead to 23-14. Carroll responded with three points of their own, but Katie Wedvick and Jessica Martin paired up for two kills, sending the Eagles to a 25-17 victory.

A similar story for the second set as Winkler served eight consecutive balls with the score tied at 9-9 to push Edgewood College's lead to 15-10. After a side out, Rachel Tesch served five consecutive points, including an ace to give the Eagles a 21-10 cushion. The Pioneers (11-9) fought back with a 6-2 run, but Winkler pounded home a kill and Sam Himmelspach put the Eagles up in the match 2-0 with an ace.

The two teams battled early in the third, but not wanting to leave without a sweep, Tesch and Lindsey Swansby paired to serve 10 of the next 13 points and sent the Eagles to a 19-14 advantage. More errors by Carroll pushed Edgewood College's lead to 23-16 and Rachel Thomsen finished off the Pioneers with the Eagles' 10th ace of the match.

Edgewood College finished with zero serving errors for the first time this season and totaled 10 aces with Winkler tallying four. The sophomore also had her first errorless match attacking, piling up six kills on 12 attempts. Martin totaled 43 attacks, more than double of anyone else for the Eagles and finished with a team-high 10 kills. Swansby dished out 23 assists while Tesch led with 21 digs. Carroll had an attack percentage of just .057 on the match with 22 errors.

The Eagles will face Alverno College on Friday before hosting Dominican University this Saturday. Live stats will be available for both with links on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
