PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Edgewood College volleyball team is returning home from the UW-Platteville Invitational with something they've never taken from there before: three victories. The Eagles swept their way through a pair of matches on Saturday, defeating Simpson College 3-0 and Loras College 3-0. Along with their win yesterday over Ripon College, the Eagles conclude the UW-Platteville Invitational with a 3-1 record, their best ever at that event.

Edgewood College (6-3) steamrolled a Simpson College team, which the Eagles had already defeated once before this season. The Eagles never let the Storm reach 20 points in any set, and only trailed once, at 1-0 in the third set, in the entire match. The Eagles claimed victory by scores of 25-13, 25-14, 25-19. Senior Mallory Palmer had seven kills to lead Edgewood College. The Eagles hit .266 in the match, sparked by Jennifer Lenz, who had five kills in eight attempts without an error for a .625 hitting percentage. Rachel Thomsen had 11 digs.

In the second match of the day, Edgewood College battled through a tense 27-25 first set victory against Loras College, before dominating the final two sets 25-18 and 25-17. Palmer again led the Eagles with 12 kills, while Jessica Martin hammered out eight of her own. Sam Himmelspach had 20 digs, marking the fourth time this season she has recorded 20 or more digs in a match. Lindsey Swansby tallied 22 assists in the victory.

Edgewood College will begin their quest for a Northern Athletics Conference championship on Tuesday when they open league play at Maranatha Baptist. The Eagles and Crusaders will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Watertown.
