Eagles start slow, finish strong for first NAC win

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Edgewood College volleyball team responded to their opening loss to Maranatha College two days ago in strong fashion, sweeping MSOE in three straight sets. The Eagles' took their first win in the Northern Athletics Conference with a 3-0 victory over the Raiders.

After a valiant comeback in the first set, the Eagles won the next two in convincing fashion against the Raiders. Edgewood College was down 18-8 to begin the match before mounting an incredible comeback and taking the first set 25-23. The Eagles also trailed at the 23-17 mark before storming back with eight consecutive points to win the set and take the 1-0 lead in the match.

The rest of the match was a completely different story as the Eagles only allowed MSOE to reach 12 points the last two sets. Edgewood College won the second set 25-15 after closing it out on a 10-3 run. The Eagles were just getting warmed up as they increased their margin of victory in the third and final set with a 25-10 victory.

For the Eagles, Lindsey Swansby dished out 29 assists to set up Edgewood College attackers. Senior Mallory Palmer led the way with nine kills while Katie Wedvick and Sarah Schuchhardt followed closely with seven apiece. Sam Himmelspach anchored the defense with 13 digs.

Stephanie Hasler led the Raiders with 11 digs and seven kills in the loss.

Edgewood College will host Carroll University on Monday, September 17. The match against the Pioneers will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. Live video and stats will be proved. These links can be found at EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
