Offensive attack propels Eagles to sweep of Aurora

AURORA, Ill. – After taking a tough loss on Friday night, the Edgewood College volleyball team had little time to regroup, playing again on Saturday morning. The Eagles took control of the match early and swept Aurora University to move to 5-3 in Northern Athletics Conference play.

Edgewood College (12-9, 5-3 NAC) opened the match with a commanding 25-12 first set victory. The Eagles did not make an attack error in the set, and had an attack percentage of .409. The Spartans (5-18, 2-6 NAC) made things interesting in the second set, but the Eagles still prevailed with the 25-20 victory.

The Eagles hit even better in the third set, making only one error and recording 14 kills. They had a blistering attack percentage of .464, en route to the 25-18 victory to sweep the match.

In the match, the Eagles made only six errors and hit .352 with 37 kills. The trio of Mallory Palmer, Jessica Martin and Katie Wedvick led the Eagles with nine kills apiece. Sam Himmelspach recorded 10 digs while Lindsey Swansby dished out 33 assists.

Edgewood College will continue their road trip on Wednesday when they play at Lakeland College. First serve from Woltzen Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
