AURORA, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's volleyball team hoped they'd caught a break when their match at Benedictine University was moved to a neutral court at Aurora University. However, the change in location didn't seem to slow down Benedictine University as they sent Edgewood College at their third conference loss 3-1 on Friday night.
The two teams traded 25-23 victories in the first two sets, before Benedictine University (13-9, 6-1 NAC) took control in the third set. Benedictine pulled out a 25-21 victory and then rolled past Edgewood College (11-9, 4-3 NAC) in the fourth set to improve to 6-1 in the Northern Athletics Conference.
Benedictine University received a team-high 15 kills from Candice Cuppini. Edgewood College was led by
Mallory Palmer with 12 kills and a .158 hitting percentage. Senior
Kristin Manske had seven kills and six assisted blocks.
Sam Himmelspach led Edgewood College with 21 digs and two service aces. Edgewood College hit .107 in the first two sets, but slipped down to -.031 in the final two sets.
Edgewood College will stay overnight in Illinois and challenge Aurora University on Saturday. The Eagles and Spartans will begin at 11:00 a.m.
