Eagles earn road victory at Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Coming off of a tough five set loss, the Edgewood College volleyball team responded with a good hitting effort at Rockford College. The Eagles hit over .200 for the sixth time this season, taking the Northern Athletics Conference match 3-1.

The Eagles (11-8, 4-2 NAC) opened the match by hitting a blistering .390 in the first set. Edgewood College recorded 22 kills against only six errors in the 25-18 victory to set the tone for the match. Their hitting dipped a bit in the second set, but the result was nearly the same, taking the set 25-19 to earn a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

Rockford (4-8, 3-3 NAC) turned up their hitting in the third set. The Regents only made two errors in the set, and hit .321 in the 25-19 victory to keep the match alive.

However, Edgewood College responded by only making two attack errors in the final set. The Eagles hit .381 in the fourth set, en route to the 25-15 victory to take the match 3-1.

The Eagles hit .257 in the match and recorded 10 blocks, marking the second straight match and third in the last four they have had at least 10 blocks in a match. Katie Wedvick posted five assisted blocks to go along with nine kills while Aryn Wellnitz accounted for four block assists. Mallory Palmer and Jessica Martin led the Eagle offensive attack with 18 and 13 kills, respectively. Lindsey Swansby handed out a match-high 46 assists. Palmer also led the team with 13 digs for the double-double, and Rachel Thomsen followed with 11 digs.

Edgewood College will be in action again this weekend when they travel to Aurora, Illinois. The Eagles will face Benedictine University at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night. That match will be played at Aurora University due to water damage to Benedictine's gym floor. Edgewood College will then play Aurora University at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
