MADISON, Wis. – A day after sweeping the Alverno College Triangular, the Edgewood College volleyball team returned home to face Clarke University. In what was a very tight match, Clarke escaped the Todd Wehr Edgedome with a sweep, 25-20, 25-21, 25-19, ending the Ealges' modest six-match winning streak.

Edgewood College (17-10) jumped out a quick 8-2 lead after a Kristin Manske kill and Sam Himmelspach ace started a 6-0 spurt. Clarke (21-12) came back, however, and tied the set at 10 apiece. The teams then exchanged points until the Crusaders went on a 6-0 run to take a commanding 24-17 lead. The Eagles scored three straight points to make things interesting, but Clarke held on for the 25-20 first set win.

Clarke controlled the second set, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. They held their lead until Edgewood College went on a run, trailing 23-15. Mallory Palmer recorded three consecutive kills to start the run and Manske recorded an ace to make the score 23-19. A Lindsey Swansby ace cut the deficit to 24-21, but Clarke scored the next point to take a commanding 2-0 lead with the 25-21 second set win. Palmer accounted for eight of the Eagles' 15 kills in the second set.

Palmer gave the Eagles a 7-3 lead with another kill in the third set, but the Crusaders mounted a comeback and tied the score at 10. After a 13-13 tie, Clarke scored six of the next eight points to earn a commanding 19-15 lead. Jessica Martin made the score 22-18 before a Crusader attack error cut the deficit to just three. However, the Crusaders scored the final three points of the set to sweep the match.

Palmer tallied a match-high 12 kills while Martin chipped in with eight. Himmelspach, Laura Sweeney, Swansby and Palmer all recorded a team and match-high eight digs in the match while Swansby handed out 30 assists.

Edgewood College takes to the road again as they travel to UW-Stevens Point for a nonconference matchup on Monday night. First serve from Stevens Point is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
