SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – The Edgewood College volleyball team may have started slow at Lakeland College on Wednesday night, but they responded and finished strong. The Muskies took the first set, but the Eagles took the next three to earn their first win at Lakeland since 1999.

Lakeland (6-18, 3-6 NAC) started quickly, making only two errors and hitting .419 in their first set victory. The set turned when the Muskies went on an 8-0 run to take a 12-6 lead. The Muskies went on to take the set 25-14.

However, Edgewood College (13-9, 6-3 NAC) was quick to respond. The Eagles hit even better in the second set than the Muskies did in the first. For the second consecutive match, the Eagles posted a set where they did not make and attack error, hitting .533 and pounding out 16 kills in the second set. The Eagles quickly jumped out to an 8-1 lead behind the serving of Lindsey Swansby. After that 7-0 run, the Eagles went on a 6-0 run that was sparked by an Aryn Wellnitz kill. The Eagles won the set 25-16 to even the match at one.

The third set started even better, after the Muskies tallied the first point, Jessica Martin came to the service line for the Eagles. She served a string of nine straight points to put the Eagles up 10-1. Mallory Palmer recorded a pair of kills on the run and Martin served up one ace. Lakeland fought back and cut the deficit to 12-7, but the Eagle attack was too much, scoring the three of the next four points to force a timeout. The lead swelled to 18-9 before the Eagles took the set 25-14.

Lakeland served to start the fourth set, but Kristin Manske quickly gave the Eagles the serve with a kill. Then with Manske at the service line, Palmer recorded a pair of kills around two Sarah Schuchhardt kills to put the Eagles up 5-0. The Muskies came back and cut the deficit to 11-9, but a service error and a Martin kill gave the momentum back to the Eagles. The Eagles gained a 23-15 lead, before the Muskies made another run. They scored four straight points and forced and Eagle timeout at 24-20. Martin finally gave the Eagles the 25-22 win with one of her 11 kills in the match.

With the win, Edgewood College snapped a 10-game road losing streak against Lakeland, a streak that dated back to 1999. Palmer led the Eagle offense with 16 kills and was followed by Martin's 11. Manske and Schuchhardt posted eight kills apiece while Swansby posted 43 assists.

The Eagles will return home on Friday when they host Concordia University Chicago at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. Edgewood College will provide live video and live stats for the 7:00 p.m. first serve. The links can be found on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
