MADISON, Wis. - Edgewood College freshman runner Josh Williams will get the opportunity to race against some of the nation's best young runners at the 2010 USA Cross Country Championships. Williams will run the Junior Men's 8K race on Saturday, February 13 at Plantes Ferry Recreation Park in Spokane, Washington.

Williams, a native of Madison, has already produced an impressive list of accomplishments in his freshman season at Edgewood College. Williams became the first Eagle to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championship in cross country when he ran a school record 25:05 at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship. He placed second at the Northern Athletics Conference Championship and led the Eagles to their first men's cross country title in school history.

“It's a great opportunity for Josh to share the course with elite runners from around the country,” said Edgewood College head cross country coach Bethany Brewster. “Our program is all about giving student-athletes the chance to reach their potential, and this race is another way to show our runners what they can achieve.”

The USA Cross Country Championships are operated by USA Track & Field. The event consists of men's and women's races at three levels of competition: Juniors (under age 20), Masters (over age 40) and an Open division. Former Olympians and University of Wisconsin athletes Matt Tegenkamp (2001) and Gabe Jennings (1997) are past champions of the Junior Men's race in which Williams will compete.
