UW-La Crosse tops Eagles in regular season finale

LA CROSSE, Wis. – In their final tune up before the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament, the Edgewood College volleyball team faced off against the Eagles of UW-La Crosse. Edgewood College came up just short as they fell to UW-La Crosse in five sets.

Edgewood College started the match on fire as they pounded out their match high 14 kills in the first set and hit a blistering .316, taking the set 25-21. UW-La Crossed got their offense rolling in the second set as they drilled 13 kills and compiled an attack percentage of .314 in the 25-15 victory to even the match.

With their offence working, UW-La Crosse tightened up their defense in the third set. For the set, they held Edgewood College to a hitting percentage of .000 and eight kills as UW-La Crosse took the set 25-18. Edgewood College bounced back in the fourth set, smashing 13 kills while taking the set 25-21 to send the match to a decisive fifth set.

Edgewood College could not keep the momentum as they had seven attacking errors and only three kills in the final set. That was too much for the Eagles to overcome as UW-La Crosse tallied six kills and took the set 15-9 and match 3-2.

Freshman Mallory Palmer led Edgewood College in kills with 16. Palmer has reached the double digit mark in kills in all but seven of the Eagles matches this season. Abbi Schultz was not far behind as she recorded 10 kills while Ellie Peckham added 20 assists and 11 digs. UW-La Crosse was led by Brianne Stankus who recorded 18 kills and Liz Schlobohm who tallied 45 assists in the victory.

Edgewood College will next be in action on Tuesday when they travel to Glen Ellyn, Ill. to face Benedictine University in the first round of the NAC Tournament. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
