Eagles tally first sweep of season at Alverno

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Through 19 matches this season, the Edgewood College women's volleyball team already has more wins than they did all of last season, eight. Not only did the Eagles exceed their win total from last season but they also earned their first sweep of the season, defeating Alverno College 3-0.

Edgewood College (8-11, 3-1 NAC) started slow as they found themselves down 6-3 in the first set. After that point the Eagles offense heated up as they outscored the Inferno (0-17, 0-4 NAC) 22-7 to finish the set with a 25-13 victory. In set two, the Eagles tightened up their defense as they held Alverno to a -.261 hitting percentage. Their offense also improved in set two as they did not have any hitting errors and posted a hitting percentage of .571 as they took the set 25-7.

The offense would keep rolling in the third set as the Eagles hit .324 and tallied 16 kills. Colleen Myers, Kaylin Wayne, Nina Brown, and Abbi Schultz recorded 12 of the 16 kills in the set, three apiece. Ellie Peckham recorded six of her seven digs in the third set to hold down the Eagle defense.

For the match, Brown and Myers led the Eagles in kills with five apiece as Peckham and Sara Schneider added 13 and 12 assists, respectively. As a team, Edgewood College hit .366 against the Inferno, which is their best hitting percentage for a match this season. Their previous high was .312 against Knox College on September 12.

The Eagles will next be in action on Saturday the Edgewood College Triangular. They face off against Viterbo University at 11:00 a.m. and Mount Mary College at 3:00 p.m.
