MADISON, Wis. – With their second straight win in three sets the Edgewood College volleyball team moved to 3-0 on the early season by defeating Ripon College at the Todd Wehr Edgedome on Wednesday night.

Just one week into the season the Eagles have already garnered one-third of their win total from 2007. Edgewood College held Ripon to a negative hit percentage in each game while progressively improving their own en route to the 25-22, 25-20, and 25-21 straight set sweep.

Set one started out slow for the Eagles as they managed just one point out of the first seven and trailed as much as 11-5 early one. They crawled back steadily thanks to Aryn Wellnitz who had her hand in four straight points as they finally tied the game at 14. The Eagles wouldn't look back from there as they went on to win by three. There was a combined 98 attacks on both sides during set one in which Ripon hit a shaky -.118 and the Eagles broke even at .000.

In set two, Edgewood College didn't waste any time. They jumped out to a 14-6 lead and hung on until finally pulling away at the end for the five point win.  Set three was much like the first where the Eagles got off to a slow start trailing 3-0, but they wouldn't let the set get out of hand. Finally tying it at 10, Kim Paskey and Abbi Schultz led the way with four kills each in the third set to run away with the match sweep of the Red Hawks.

Paskey led the way with nine kills and hit .348 for the match. Kristin Manske had a breakout performance tallying eight kills, which doubles her season total. She also added five digs in the win. Schultz had a game-high 19 assists to go with nine digs and Kim Lueck led both sides with 18 digs.

Edgewood College will have their hands full when they travel to Platteville, Wis. to participate in the UW-Platteville Invitational this Friday and Saturday. They'll take their undefeated record and battle four teams which they have never beaten.
