SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (Oct. 30, 3007) – The #1 seeded Lakeland College defeated the #8 seeded Edgewood College women's volleyball team 3-0 (30-21, 30-21, 30-27), Tuesday night in a first round NAC tournament game in Sheboygan, Wis.
Lakeland's Brittanie Paulus led both teams with 11 kills in the match. Kim Paskey (Poynette, Wis.) led the Eagles with 8 kills on 18 attacks. Defensively, Katie Stankowski (Franklin, Wis.) recorded 20 digs to lead the Eagles. It is the second time this year that the Muskies have defeated the Eagles. Lakeland beat Edgewood College 3-0 (30-13, 30-18, 30-26) back on September 11th in a game also played in Sheboygan. The loss ends Edgewood College's season.
The Eagles finish the year with a 9-22 record, including a 6-6 record in the NAC. 2007 was the first year since 1998 that the team finished conference play with a .500 record or better. The team went 7-5 in 1998 in the now defunct Lake Michigan Conference. Lakeland College, the Northern Athletics Conference regular season champion, came into the game ranked #8 in the Midwest region by the NCAA with a record of 20-14 and a perfect 12-0 conference record. The win gives the Muskies, now 21-14, the right to host another home tournament game on Thursday November 4, against the fourth seeded Concordia University (Chicago) in the semi-finals.
