MADISON, Wis. – Edgewood College shot a scorching 63.6 percent from the field in the second half en route to a 70-56 Lake Michigan Conference victory over visiting Lakeland College from the Todd Wehr Edgedome on Wednesday.

Seniors David Michalkiewicz* (Menasha, Wis.) and Greg Blaska (DeForest, Wis.) scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, to lead the Eagles, who have sole possession of first place in the LMC. With the win, Edgewood improved its overall record to 13-8 (7-2 LMC), while the Muskies drop two games below .500 with a 9-11 mark (4-5 LMC).

Edgewood held a 30-24 lead at halftime, but extended the margin to nine points when Justin Kuhnau (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) nailed a three-point basket on the Eagles’ first possession of the second half. Midway through the period, the Eagles went on a modest 7-0 run. The short burst of offense gave Edgewood its largest lead of the game, 60-43, with just under eight minutes to play and erased any hopes of a Lakeland comeback.

Nick Zeck scored a game-high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting to pace the Muskies, who shot just 3-of-18 from long distance. Lakeland turned the ball over 11 times compared to seven miscues by the Eagles. Edgewood’s Seth Cooper* (Madison, Wis.) added 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Charlie Averkamp (New Berlin, Wis.) pitched in 11 points and five rebounds in 11 minutes on the court.

Edgewood will be back in action this Saturday, Feb. 5, when the Eagles travel to Fond du Lac, Wis. to take on Marian College. The Eagles will be looking for redemption as the Sabres defeated Edgewood in Madison with a 65-53 win back on Jan. 12. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
