Pitching coach Rick Monson joined the Edgewood College softball coaching staff for the 2010 season. He has coached baseball and/or women’s fast-pitch softball for over 30 years and coached at Madison East High School before coming to Edgewood College.

After learning pitching techniques from ASA Hall of Famer and pitching legend Willie Taylor, Monson served as the pitching coach at Madison East High School for six years. While at Madison East he helped the Purgolders to their first Big 8 conference championship in 15 years. Monson then became the head coach at East for two seasons as well as serving as East Madison’s Little League softball director for three years. He also served as president of the East Side Softball Association for two years.

Monson has mentored dozens of young women in the art and science of softball pitching in Dane County where he is well respected for his knowledge and strategy of the sport. Two of his prodigies were preferred walk-ons as pitchers at UW-Madison.
