A native of East Los Angeles, California, Africa Lozano was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and she joined the Edgewood College coaching staff prior to the 2010 season. Before coming to Edgewood College she studied at The University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she also played softball.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies. She then earned her Master’s in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis in Higher Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Lozano currently works for The University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Center for education Opportunity program.

When Lozano came into the Wisconsin softball program she was a catcher. However, she transitioned to play in the Badgers outfield, where she played the majority of her career.
