Matthew Heinzman is in his second year at Edgewood College in 2023-24, serving as the cross country and track & field head coach.
In his first season leading the cross country program he coached a national championship performer in Ally Verbauwhede. During the 2023 season, Verbauwhede earned All-NACC and All-Region honors on her way to her second appearance at the NCAA championship.
During the 2024 indoor track & field season, he coached six all-conference performers. Heinzman added three NACC Champions in the outdoor season and six total all-conference selections. He led two athletes to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, where they earned the first All-American honors in program history.
Prior to Edgewood College, Heinzman served as a graduate assistant coach at Augustana College during the 2022-23 academic year. At Augustana, Heinzman was a part of training with distance athletes and had a large hand in recruitment.
Heinzman was a stand-out cross country and track & field student-athlete at Wartburg College from 2017-2022. He was a six-time national qualifier, two-time All-American and helped his team win their first NCAA Division III Outdoor track & field championship in 2021. Heinzman owns 10 top-10 times in the Wartburg track & field history books, including school-records in the indoor 4x800-meter relay.
Heinzman has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Health and Fitness Studies from Wartburg College. He earned his Master's degree in Business Administration at Western Illinois.
