NAC Game 4 - Box Score

LOVES PARK, Ill. – Rockford College is still alive after a marathon win in game four of the 2009 Northern Athletics Conference Tournament hosted by Edgewood College. The Regents scored eight in the third frame with the big blow coming on a grand slam from senior Shaun Dascher that might still be rolling in the right field parking lot. Amidst 106 minutes in weather delays, the hometown team defeated Benedictine 16-4, eliminating the Eagles from tournament contention.

Dascher went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI in the game. His grand slam was his fourth home run of the season and one of three home runs in the inning. Eric Nicholson homered first to tie the game at 2-2 before the slam and Chris Brockman capped off the 8-run inning with a two-run homer just inside the left field foul pole. The Regents would tack on five more in the ninth and cruise to the rout of Benedictine, who suffered its second 16-4 loss on the day.

Benedictine’s Kenny Burdi was 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored from the leadoff spot. Pitcher James Callahan went 5.1 innings, but suffered the loss to drop his record to 2-4 on the year.

Regent pitcher Travis Mohr moved his record to 7-2 after allowing three runs (1 earned) on nine hits in five innings. Zach Jones earned his second save of the season with four effective innings in relief.

Rockford advances to play Aurora at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Road Ranger Stadium. The winner will face Concordia Chicago at 1:30 p.m. and would need to beat the Cougars twice in order to earn the NAC’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.
