VERONA, Wis. – The receiving votes Edgewood University men's soccer team hosted No. 8 Augsburg University in a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament Second Round contest. Back-to-back goals in the second half from the Auggies resulted in a 2-1 final in the non-conference battle. The Eagles scored first, as Riley Kann found the back of the net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University (0-3-2) and Augsburg University (1-0-2) played through a scoreless first half on Saturday evening. The Auggies led the Eagles 9-4 in shots through the first 45. Both goalkeepers managed two saves in the first half. The Eagles best shots came from Haris Sarajlija and Che Allnutt in the first half.
- The Eagles wasted little time getting on the board in the second half, scoring in the 56th minute. Kann perfectly placed a pass from Isaiah Stiebel into the back of the net.
- Eric Riera stunned the Eagle defense in the 76th minute, making sense of chaos in the box from a corner kick and tying the game at one goal apiece.
- Just five minutes later, Remus Repcak gave the Auggies a 2-1 lead. Repack's goal was assisted by Jackson Nichols-Lindsey and Caleb Ibarra.
- Augsburg outshot Edgewood University 23-11 on the evening.
- Eagle goalkeeper Ezra Wallace recorded six saves. Finnur Mercier posted three saves for the Auggies.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edgewood University and Augsburg University last met in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. The Eagles narrowly fell to the Auggies 1-0 last November.
