MONTGOMERY, Ill. – The Edgewood University women's lacrosse team saw its 2026 season come to an end with a 9-4 loss at No. 2 seeded Aurora University in the NACC Tournament Semifinal on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Through the first 15 minutes on Wednesday, Edgewood University (8-11) and Aurora University (11-7) were tied at two goals apiece. The Spartans scored first in the fourth minute. Kerry Costello put the Eagles on the board with a goal assisted by Malak Daoud with 7:49 on the clock. Ava Courtney netted her second goal for the Spartans with 5:42 left in the quarter before a goal from Paige Janicki, assisted by Milli Shell tied the contest at two goals.
- The Spartans turned it on in the second quarter, scoring four goals and holding the Eagles to zero shots. Aurora took a 6-2 lead into halftime.
- Edgewood University kept things close, allowing just two Spartan goals in the second and one in the fourth quarter. Despite a strong defensive showing from the Eagles, they only scored once in each of the final two quarters. Kailey Smith scored the Eagles third goal, while Lauryn Brown netted a player-up goal with 4:51 left in the contest.
- The Eagles led the Spartans 12-3 in draw controls on the afternoon.
- Bella Braun totaled four saves in net for the Eagles.
THE OPPOSITION
- Ava Courtney led the Spartans with six goals.
- Sarah Brown caused eight turnovers and collected six ground balls.
