Eagles defeat Sabres, Remain Undefeated in NACC Play

VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood University women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 in conference play on Wednesday. The Eagles defeated the Sabres 17-9. Kailey Smith, Paige Janicki, and Milli Shell led the Eagles attack on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a back-and-forth first quarter on Wednesday, as Milli Shell got things going in the first minute for Edgewood University (4-7, 3-0 NACC). Chloe Yanez and Elizabeth Van Ryzin scored back-to-back goals in the third minute to put Marian University (2-8, 1-2 NACC) up 2-1. Lauryn Brown netted a player-up goal less than a minute later to tie the contest at two goals apiece. Shell and Yanez traded goals for a 3-3 tie with five minutes left in the first quarter. Paige Janicki and Kailey Smith scored the final two goals of the first quarter to give the Eagles a 5-3 advantage.

- Three different Eagles scored in the second quarter, as Smith, Malak Daoud and Janicki put the Eagles up 8-4 at halftime.

- The third quarter was much of the same for Edgewood University, with Daoud, Brown and Janicki all scoring. Marian netted a single goal in the third quarter.

- Edgewood University turned the jets on in the final 15 minutes on Wednesday. Despite the cold temperatures, things heated up on the field for the Eagles with six goals in the fourth quarter. Christina Eloe, Kerry Costello, and Kamryn Ibinger joined the scoring party for the Eagles in the final 15 minutes.

- Edgewood University led Marian 31-17 in shots on Wednesday afternoon.

TOP PERFORMERS
- Smith collected a career-best six points for the Eagles on Wednesday. She scored three goals and dished out three assists.

- Janicki and Shell both scored three times in the victory.

- Eloe did a bit of everything for the Eagles, collecting six draw controls, picking up four ground balls, scoring twice and dishing out an assist.

- Hollen Thompson collected a career-best six caused turnovers and picked up six ground balls.

- Bella Braun collected six saves in net for the Eagles.

THE OPPOSITION
- Chloe Yanez led the Sabres with six goals on Wednesday. She added three draw controls and scored twice via free-position shots.

- Elizabeth Van Ryzin scored twice.

- Talia Bellotti collected a team-high six draw controls and caused six turnovers. Bellotti added eight ground balls.

- Emma Johnson and Gianna PruDe split time in net for the Sabres. PruDe collected four saves across 30 minutes.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood University will travel to Aurora University on Saturday. Action is set for 11:00 a.m. from Montgomery, Ill.
