Eagles split with Pointers, Vikings

NEENAH, Wis. – Women's Tennis headed up north Sunday for a nonconference doubleheader. They took on the UW-Stevens Point Pointers and the Lawrence Vikings. The Pointers (15-3) overcame a doubles defeat for a 5-2 victory against the Eagles (13-5). Edgewood University bounced back nicely with a 6-1 result against the Vikings (6-8).
 
MATCH ONE: UW-STEVENS POINT 5, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 2
- The Eagles started out strong with Evelyn Taylor/Hattie Plenty winning 6-3 in no. 1 doubles. Christina Ekkela/Kaitlyn Narkis claimed a 6-3 victory in no. 3 doubles.
 
- Lauryn Krober/Sophia Perret fell 6-2 in the second slot.
 
- Taylor dropped a 6-0, 6-0 result in no. 1 singles. Plenty's comeback attempt in second billing fell short 6-3, 2-6, 1-0.
 
- Perret lost 6-2, 6-3 in the third slot, while Narkis conceded a 6-2, 7-5 result in no. 4 singles.
 
- Ekkela bounced back with an impressive showing in the fifth slot, winning 4-6, 6-1, 1-0. Krober wrapped up the match with a 6-1, 6-1 loss in no.6 singles.
 
MATCH TWO: EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 6, LAWRENCE 1
- The Eagles set the tone in doubles. Taylor/Plenty and Ekkela/Narkis won by identical 6-1 margins in no. 1 and 3 doubles respectively.
 
- Perret/Krober finished off doubles with a 7-6 (7-3) victory.
 
- While Taylor fell 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3) in top singles, Plenty put Edgewood University back in the win column with a 6-3, 6-1 result.
 
- Perret pieced together an impressive 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-5) comeback in no. 3 singles. Narkis kept the ball rolling with a 6-2, 6-3 final in the fourth slot.
 
- Ekkela continued to shine with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in fifth billing. Krober put a bow on the strong showing with a 6-0, 6-1 final in the sixth slot.
   
UP NEXT
The Eagles will take the next couple of weeks off before Spring Break action kicks off. They'll travel down to Orlando, Fla. Starting on Monday, March 16. They'll take on Illinois Wesleyan and Saint Benedict with first serve to be determined.
