VERONA, WIS. – Baseball continued their NACC homestand with Cutting Edge Program Day at a chilly Stampfl Field Saturday. They took on the Rockford Regents in a doubleheader. The Eagles (8-9, 4-2 NACC) put the clamps on the Regents (10-8, 1-5) offense in 2-1 and 8-1 victories.
GAME ONE: EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 2, ROCKFORD 1
- A pitcher's duel broke out in the first game.
Aiden Shumaker pitched eight innings, allowing one run and fanning eight Regent batters. Rapier struck out four Eagles in eight innings.
- Edgewood College broke through in the sixth. After loading the bases, a
Jacob Carney walk put the Eagles up 1-0.
- Edgewood College tacked on an important insurance run in the eighth,
Daniel Bentivegna singled up the middle to bat in a run.
- The Regents threatened in the ninth.
Mark Tor came on in relief with two on and nobody out. While a fielder's choice would plate a runner, Tor earned the save for a one-run victory.
-
Terry Tolliver Jr. was the lone multi-hit Eagle. He hit 2-for-3 with a run and a walk.
GAME TWO: EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 8, ROCKFORD 1
- Carney and Bentivegna picked up where they left off in game one. A bases loaded walk from Carney started the scoring in the first, while Bentivegna singled in a pair to wrap up a three-run first.
- While a passed ball would allow a run to score for the Regents in the seventh, the Eagles' defense proved to be smothering. A five-run eighth was the icing on the cake, with
Jacob Minnear coming home on a balk.
Brevin Brisack walking in a run, and Carney hitting a bases-clearing double to left center with the bases loaded for three RBIs.
-
Drew Lenz pitched eight innings, striking out three and walking only one batter. Tor stepped up again as the closer, helping force three straight groundouts to finish the sweep.
- Carney hit 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two walks. Bentivegna earned a pair of RBIs.
-
Hayden Hellenbrand went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run.
Kyle Prindle earned two runs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Prindle earned his 100th career walk in the second game. He is only the second Eagle to reach the century mark in walks.
- Edgewood College recorded no errors in the doubleheader. They also didn't allow a single extra base hit.
