CLERMONT, Fla. – The Edgewood College softball team returned to the diamonds at Legends Way on Tuesday and broke out the brooms for two wins. The Eagles opened the day with a 5-3 win over Salem State before routing Southern Maine 2-0, in the nightcap.
EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 5, SALEM STATE 3
- Edgewood College (5-9) scored first on Tuesday morning, as a sacrifice fly off the bat of Gracie Halfman scored Allie Draper. Natalie Field roped a single into left field, scoring Olivia Hebert for a 2-0 Eagle lead after one inning.
- Camden Shepherd opened the second inning with an infield single. A sacrifice bunt from Chloe McLaughlin moved Shepherd into scoring position. Kya Loffswold made quick work of the scoring situation, scoring Shepherd from second via an RBI single to right field for a 3-0 Eagle advantage.
- Edgewood College took a 5-0 lead in the top of the sixth frame thanks to an RBI single from Bean Dubree and RBI fielders choice from Draper.
- The Edgewood College defense combined with strong pitching from Lauren Prigge and Kaitlin Pratt held the Salem State (3-2) attack scoreless until the bottom of the sixth frame. In all, Salem State stranded five on the base-paths and outhit the Eagles 8-7 on the morning.
- Prigge picked up her second victory of the season, throwing 5.2 innings and strikng out four batters. Pratt pitched 1.1 innings of relief, striking out two batters.
EDGEWOOD COLLEGE 2, SOUTHERN MAINE 0
- Edgewood College and Southern Maine (1-5) were scoreless through 3.5 innings, before the Eagles broke through in the bottom of the fourth frame.
- With the bases loaded, Dubree came into the game as a pinch hitter. The freshman singled down the left field line to score Halfman and Grace Ott for a 2-0 advantage and only runs of the game.
- It was a defensive battle for the Eagles in the nightcap, as the Huskies recorded seven hits on the day and stranded a whopping 10 batters on the basepaths.
- Baugnet earned the complete game shutout on Tuesday afternoon. The sophomore struck out six batters and scattered seven hits.
- Loffswold went 1-for-2 at the plate, roping a double.

- Edgewood College will round out their Florida trip on Thursday with two more non-conference contests. The Eagles will face Hamline University at 9:00 a.m. (ET), followed by Buffalo State at 11:30 a.m. (ET).
