Eagles fall at No. 12 Duhawks

DUBUQUE, IOWA – Men's Volleyball hit the road Tuesday for their first of back-to-back road matches against nationally ranked foes. They traveled to take on the Loras Duhawks, ranked no. 12 in the latest AVCA poll. The Duhawks (5-1) soared off the back of their offense to a 3-0 (25-18,25-18, 25-16) victory against the Eagles (1-5).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Four kills and an ace set the tone for the evening as Loras jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Four unanswered pushed them further ahead to a 15-6 advantage. Edgewood College pushed back into the set. Down 19-9, a 7-3 run cut into the Duhawks lead, but Loras would seal the set for a 1-0 lead.
 
- The Duhawks put together another strong start in set two with a 5-1 advantage. Loras built up to a 12-6 edge. The Eagles prevented them from pulling away and struck late, a 6-2 run pulling within 19-17. Loras once again pulled away late, claiming a 2-0 tally in the match with a 6-1 sprint.
 
- Six unanswered sent the Duhawks flying ahead in the third frame. Edgewood College struggled for answers, unable to make much headway in the deficit. Loras finished off the set and match with authority with a 25-16 final.
 
- Loras outhit the Eagles .415-to-.161 for the match.
 
- Corey Mayotte paced the Duhawks with 16 kills on a .483 hitting percentage and two aces. He tied with teammate Ryan Floyd with eight digs.
 
- Evan Dziadkowiec fueled a fast-paced offense with 36 assists.
 
- Bo Brainerd hit 10 kills on 14 attempts with a .714 attack percentage.
 
- Gavin Patterson was one of three Edgewood College hitters with six kills. He also tallied five digs.
 
- Will Gehrke earned 27 assists on the evening.
 
- Carsyn Stringfellow swung for six kills and earned an ace. Owen Hartjes recorded six kills and two blocks.
 
UP NEXT
Edgewood College will open NACC play on the road Thursday. They'll face off with the Aurora Spartans, ranked no. 15 in the latest AVCA poll. First serve in Aurora, Ill. is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
