Eagles fall short at Warriors in NACC Tournament Quarterfinal

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team led Wisconsin Lutheran College for most of the NACC Tournament Quarterfinal on Tuesday evening. A 12 point fourth-quarter effort from the Warriors sophomore Margie Stevens turned the tides in favor of the home team. The seventh-seeded Eagles fell to the second-seeded Warriors 65-59 on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With 10 minutes remaining, Edgewood College (14-12) led Wisconsin Lutheran (19-7) 43-40. To that point, the Eagles defense had worked hard to hold the Warriors leading scorer Margie Stevens to just four points in the first quarter. Stevens, who spent a majority of the contest in foul trouble, made trouble for the Eagles in the final quarter. The sophomore scored 12 points in the final 10 minutes to carry the Warriors to victory. Stevens, coupled with a timely three-point make from Kara Troxel was too much for Edgewood College.

- The Eagles came out of the gate confident, scoring 18 points in the opening quarter and leading by four points after the first 10 minutes. Edgewood College forced the Warriors to make costly turnovers and shot a confident 46.67 percent (7-for-15) from the floor in the opening quarter.

- Wisconsin Lutheran battled back in the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles 16-14. Edgewood College hung tough and even saw a rare three-point make from Vivian Guerrero with 3:05 left on the clock to turn the tides back in favor of the Eagles. Edgewood College took a 32-38 lead going into halftime.

- It was a tight third quarter for both teams, as defense proved to be key in keeping the contest close. Kenzie Senffner and Taylor Wollin recorded timely three-point makes for the Eagles. Edgewood College clung to a three point lead (43-40) going into the final quarter.

- Guerrero posted a 14 point, 12 rebound double-double that saw the senior record two three-point makes. Guerrero added three assists and two blocks.

- Jordan Carlquist closed out her career with 19 points, going 5-for-10 from beyond the arc.

- Jayden Nortier was a consistent scoring force from range for the Eagles, collecting eight points to close out her sophomore campaign.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Guerrero passes 1,000 career rebounds in her career. The senior becomes the third Eagle in program history to record both 1,000 points and rebounds. Megan Scheele (2005-09) and Deb Boomsma (1987-91) both achieve this mark in their careers.

THE OPPOSITION
- Four Warriors scored in double-digits on Tuesday night. Janiyah Goner led Wisconsin Lutheran with 18 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the floor and 3-for-4 shooting from beyond the arc.

- Margie Stevens recorded 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

- Kara Troxel and Jayden Hill each collected 11 points. Hill added 13 points to complete the double-double.
